Are we there yet?

I’m not a world traveler, but I’ve been to a few tropical places. And, whenever I arrive at my destination, I like to pause and catch my breath before venturing out to parts unknown. So, now that I’ve departed Genesis, and arrived at Exodus, I’d like to take a moment to reflect.

Day 17 – Exodus chapters 1-3 and Psalms 17

This Bible journey means everything to me. It’s the first time that I’ve ever committed to writing every day...consistently. It’s been 2½ weeks, and I can honestly say that I’ve never read the Bible every day for this many days in a row...until now. What I’m doing is an act of obedience. I believe that I’m being led by God to marry two of my passions, writing and His Word.

What I’m doing is also an act of self-discipline. If no one ever reads my blog, or comments on my social media posts, I must continue. Why? There are a few different reasons:

Number 1

Last year was an unusually stressful year for me. My faith was tested. And, I was shaken! I was disappointed in myself for being shaken. Even realizing that I could be shaken shook me. As I explained to my son two nights ago, l thought my faith was more solid than it was. But, clearly it isn’t. So, by committing to this day and night Bible journey, I’m praying that I will arrive at that next level of faith. I want to be the solid unwavering matriarch someday who’s so close to God that I can see trouble from a mile away, and be ready for it.

What’s remarkable about that conversation with my son is that, the next day, Psalm 16 was on the reading schedule. And, the words in that Psalm were some of the same words I used the night before. This was one of many confirmations that have occurred for me along the way. It’s like God keeps letting me know that I’m on the right track. And, it’s very exciting!

So, I must continue writing each night, even when I’m tired, because that’s when God gives me instruction that I can share with others. And, by continuing to operate in His purpose for me, He will lead me to that unshakable faith that I desire.

Number 2

As I continue to pause and reflect on the purpose of this journey, I also recognize that if I’m going to be useful to the Lord, then I must put in the time consistently to do so. I have to be dependable to Him. I’ve got to be a woman of my word. No excuses. I must be willing to sacrifice my usual habit of procrastination. If I can show God that I can be trusted, then I pray that He will continue to bless this journey with His wisdom. I pray that He will be pleased with me.

Number 3

And, finally, I’ve somehow managed to reach the age of wisdom with a life-long dream of becoming an author, but I’ve never completed even one book. Shame on me! So, I must write consistently in order to become published. And, I challenge myself to continue on this day and night journey so that I can hone the skills every published author must have. It’s not enough to enjoy writing. If I’m going to be a prolific writer for the Lord, then I must approach it with the high-level focus that He deserves.

So, those are my personal reasons for continuing to read and write every day, whether I’m alone on this Bible journey or not. But, of course, I’d love it if there were kindred spirits out there somewhere who would enjoy taking this trip with me. If you love the Scriptures like I do, feel free to comment below or on my Facebook page where I share these thoughts and more.
