Listen UP!

Forgive me, Lord, but I am exhausted tonight! My grandbabies were with me the last 28 hours, and they have worn me out completely. Although I enjoy them immensely, it’s difficult to find time to use the bathroom, let alone time to write, with a one-year-old, three-year-old, and five-year-old demanding your constant attention.

Day 81 - 1 Samuel chapters 13-14 and Psalms 81

Thankfully, the Lord opened my eyes much earlier than usual (at 6 a.m.) this morning so that I could read before they all woke up. But, my notes were rushed and my fuel tank is running on empty. So, in an effort not to falter on my commitment to write nightly about my Bible journey, I’m submitting this brief entry about how real life sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions.

I’m sure there are others out there who can relate. And, I pray that the Lord recognizes tonight’s effort as my best, considering the circumstances. Before I go, though, I’d just like to leave you with Psalms 81, starting with the 8th verse. It tells us what it means to LISTEN, why it’s important to LISTEN, and what happens when we don’t LISTEN.

Because LISTENING is the theme of my blog, this Psalm jumped out at me and demanded special attention. If only I had enough energy tonight to give it the intense focus that it deserves. But, maybe it’s best to let these powerful words stand on their own...

Oh, That My People Would Listen to Me

8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel,

if you would but LISTEN to me!

9 There shall be no strange god among you;

you shall not bow down to

a foreign god.

10 I am the Lord your God,

who brought you up out of the land

of Egypt.

Open your mouth wide,

and I will fill it.

11 "But my people did not LISTEN to my voice;

Israel would not submit to me.

12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts,

to follow their own counsels.

13 Oh, that my people would

LISTEN to me,

that Israel would walk in my ways!

14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand

against their foes.

15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him,

and their fate would last forever.

16 But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat,

and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

Let that marinate. And LISTEN. Good night, y'all.

*Join my one-year trip around the world of Scripture. You’re invited to take this journey with me, as I meditate on God’s Word day and night. Each morning, you’ll find a post on my Facebook page encouraging my new #Biblebuddies along the way. And each night, I’ll be writing my impressions right here at I’d love it if you’d share your comments, to spark some fruitful discussion. The only passport you’ll need for this journey is the Read Scripture app which provides us with our daily itinerary. You’ll love this app because it contains videos by The Bible Project that serve as our tour guide. Traveling is so much better when you have someone to share the experience with, so please join me, will you?
