Last night, I felt tired and uninspired. “It be like that sometimes,” as my sons used to say. But, tonight I’m full of emotion about what has become my second favorite book ever, second only to the Holy Bible. This book right here…
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young
...has a way of speaking directly to the challenges I’ve been facing. And, it speaks in just the right moment, with all the right words. Whether I read it first thing in the morning, or last thing at night, or any time in between, this little book is always right on time.
It’s a little miracle really. Not in and of itself, of course. I’d never get myself in trouble by worshiping an inanimate object. But, the miracle of it is in the way the Father uses tools at my disposal to communicate with little old me. He’s been using this tool a LOT this year, and I can’t believe I haven’t devoted an entire post to it yet.
Now that I’m about one-quarter of the way through this one-year challenge to read the entire Bible in one year, it’s finally time to highlight my little pink book (which also comes in other colors). In addition to reading the chapters on the Read Scripture app schedule every day, I’ve also been reading a page in the Jesus Calling book. And, it blows my mind sometimes how timely the passage of the day is. Like this one for today…
If you’ve seen my Instagram or Facebook pages, you already know how much I love this book. A few Christmases ago, I gave copies to all my sons, as well as to my daughter-in-law (hers is pink, too). But, I never bought myself one until a few months ago. Why now? Well, last year was pretty rough for a lot of reasons, and my daughter-in-law would send me pics of the pages in her book to encourage me.
It always amazed me how perfect they were. I don’t believe in coincidences, so I knew it was placed before my eyes for a reason. So, near the end of last year, I ordered my own Jesus Calling book so that I could add it to my new habit of reading the Bible every morning, instead of reading the news.
In just three months, the two have made all the difference in my perspective. My sense of entitlement as a believer has decreased, while my level of humility has increased. I care much less about all the scary things going on in the news. I still worry, but I’m working on that. Or should I say, God is working on that in me through His Word, and the words he inspired author, Sarah Young, to write.
I pray that, at the end of this journey, that I’ll have transformed so completely in terms of my level of faith and understanding, that God sees fit to use me in the same way. It’s my dream to bless people with the words that He inspires me to write. Use me, Lord. Let me be a vessel for You, through which others can come to know and love You like I do. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
By the way, it's...
Day 86 - 1 Samuel chapters 28-31 and Psalms 86
...and I can't wait to write about Saul's spooky seance experience, during which he asked a medium to call up the dead. (Oh my!)
*Join my one-year trip around the world of Scripture. You’re invited to take this journey with me, as I meditate on God’s Word day and night. Each morning, you’ll find a post on my Facebook page encouraging my new #Biblebuddies along the way. And each night, I’ll be writing my impressions right here at listen2leslie.com. I’d love it if you’d share your comments, to spark some fruitful discussion. The only passport you’ll need for this journey is the Read Scripture app which provides us with our daily itinerary. You’ll love this app because it contains videos by The Bible Project that serve as our tour guide. Traveling is so much better when you have someone to share the experience with, so please join me, will you?
