Pity Party: Having faith when everything is going wrong

Even though you can't tell from this picture, I'm happy today. But when I wrote this guest post for the folks over at Abide, I was going through it! We've all had days, weeks, months, even years when it feels like we have a bullseye on our backs, and the devil is having too much fun with target practice.

Besides prayer and meditation, writing is one of the tools I use to get it all out of my system. And, because I know I'm not alone out there, I've decided to share some of my personal journey with others who might receive it as a blessing in their own lives.

So, here's an excerpt of my guest post:

I Made a List Today

It was a feeling-sorry-for-myself kind of day, so it was a feeling-sorry-for-myself kind of list. It's been a pretty tough month for me emotionally. So, today I invited myself to a private pity party.

I could detail my struggles here, but that wouldn't do anyone any good. Suffice it to say, there have been mountains to climb in regards to my health, my finances, and my family. Everything seems to be going wrong all at the same time. This must be what my great-grandmother meant when she used to say, “The devil sure is busy!”

So, What’s a Woman of God Supposed to Do?

I'm supposed to stay focused on the good. I'm supposed to know that the devil comes at you hard and strong when you finally submit yourself to God's will. I should already anticipate the opposition, so that when it comes, I can deflect it and protect myself from it. That all sounds great, in theory.
